Get involved with Gloucester Waterways Museum

Museums offer fascinating, enjoyable and rewarding volunteering opportunities. At Gloucester, Friends and volunteers;

• help the Museum to thrive
  
• become part of an enthusiastic community of people
  
• spend time in an attractive and historic, waterside setting
  
• learn about fascinating histories and stories
  
• work in a sociable and friendly environment
  
• use their skills and knowledge in new and rewarding ways
  
• hone or learn new skills

Volunteers

The museum needs volunteers to help in the following areas;

• reception and shop
  
• office administration and marketing
  
• boat trips (including cleaning, painting, crewing, bar and catering)
  
• school visits and events
  
• site services
  
• maintaining internal displays

Whatever your age and experience we would love to hear from you and we offer training and support to help you get the most from your time at the museum.

Friends of the museum

To take advantage of the opportunity to get more involved in the Museum you may be interested in becoming a Friend of the museum.

The long-established Friends help look after the Museum’s collections through voluntary work and fund raising. Members get free admission to the museum and receive a quarterly newsletter. Talks listed in the What’s On Page and social events are held throughout the year, providing an opportunity to meet fellow Friends.

Through the Friends, you can get involved with:

• stewarding at events
  
• restoring exhibits

• operating working exhibits such as the steam dredger, steam crane or motor tug
  
• demonstrating traditional and canal crafts
  
• attending local events to publicise the museum and the Friends
  
• carrying out research, collecting knowledge and photographs
